Observations
The failed CONTOUR mission was launched to study this comet, and also Schwassmann-Wachmann 3.
On April 20, 2007, STEREO-A observed the tail of Comet Encke to be temporarily torn off by magnetic field disturbances caused by a coronal mass ejection (a blast of solar particles from the Sun). The tail grew back due to the continuous shedding of dust and gas by the comet.

Famous quotes containing the word observations:
“Jerry: Shes one of those third-year girls that gripe my liver.
Milo: Third-year girls?
Jerry: Yeah, you know, American college kids. They come over here to take their third year and lap up a little culture. They give me a swift pain.
Milo: Why?
Jerry: Theyre officious and dull. Theyre always making profound observations theyve overheard.”
—Alan Jay Lerner (19181986)
“The natural historian is not a fisherman who prays for cloudy days and good luck merely; but as fishing has been styled a contemplative mans recreation, introducing him profitably to woods and water, so the fruit of the naturalists observations is not in new genera or species, but in new contemplations still, and science is only a more contemplative mans recreation.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“By sharing the information and observations with the caregiver, you have a chance to see your child through another pair of eyes. Because she has some distance and objectivity, a caregiver often sees things that a parents total involvement with her child doesnt allow.”
—Amy Laura Dombro (20th century)
