Display Adapters
All these display adapters have text modes in which each character cell contains an 8-bit character code point (see details), giving 256 possible values for graphic characters. This way, beyond the original ASCII graphical character set (values 32 to 126, 95 in total), the implementers put in ROM a handful of miscellaneous characters even for the range 0 to 31, reserved in ASCII for control (non graphical) purposes.
