Famous quotes containing the word fall:

    The bay-trees in our country are all withered,
    And meteors fright the fixèd stars of heaven.
    The pale-faced moon looks bloody on the earth,
    And lean-looked prophets whisper fearful change.
    Rich men look sad, and ruffians dance and leap;
    The one in fear to lose what they enjoy,
    The other to enjoy by rage and war.
    These signs forerun the death or fall of kings.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    At the stumbling of a horse, the fall of a tile, the slightest pin prick, let us promptly chew on this: Well, what if it were death itself? And thereupon let us stiffen and fortify ourselves.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

    Napoleon said of Massena, that he was not himself until the battle began to go against him; then, when the dead began to fall in ranks around him, awoke his powers of combination, and he put on terror and victory as a robe.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
