City of Perth Skyworks

The City of Perth Skyworks (Formerly the Lotterywest Skyworks) is a fireworks show that is held over the section of the Swan River in Perth, Western Australia known as Perth Water. It is held every Australia Day on 26 January.

The Skyworks show usually runs for half an hour and has involved fireworks launched from bridges, sky scrapers and moving boats in the past. The fireworks are choreographed to a soundtrack which is played on the radio while the fireworks are underway. Many people travel into the inner-city to watch the Skyworks but many people also watch the show from the top of hills and bridges that provide a view even from kilometres away.

Famous quotes containing the words city and/or perth:

San Francisco is where gay fantasies come true, and the problem the city presents is whether, after all, we wanted these particular dreams to be fulfilled—or would we have preferred others? Did we know what price these dreams would exact? Did we anticipate the ways in which, vivid and continuous, they would unsuit us for the business of daily life? Or should our notion of daily life itself be transformed?
    Edmund White (b. 1940)

To motorists bound to or from the Jersey shore, Perth Amboy consists of five traffic lights that sometimes tie up week-end traffic for miles. While cars creep along or come to a prolonged halt, drivers lean out to discuss with each other this red menace to freedom of the road.
