The Aspen was the first truck-based Sport Utility Vehicle commercialized under the Chrysler brand, although the PT Cruiser was the first truck-based Chrysler brand vehicle as classified under Corporate Average Fuel Economy's (CAFE) regulation. With this introduction, as of 2006, all American automobile brands had an SUV in their range. The truck was unveiled at the 2006 North American International Auto Show. The Aspen came equipped with three rows of seating for 8 passengers and available all-wheel drive.
The Aspen came in one series, the Limited, with several optional equipment packages to customize the vehicle.
The Aspen had three engines available, a flex-fuel 4,701 cc (4.7 L; 286.9 cu in) V8 engine (capable of running on E85 or gasoline in states where E85 ethanol is legal under emission standards), a gasoline 4.7 L V8 (for California and other states where the E85 4.7 L V8 will not meet emissions requirements), and the 5,654 cc (5.7 L; 345.0 cu in) Chrysler Hemi V8 with MDS.
