Christina Aguilera (album) - Background and Composition

Background and Composition

In 1998, Aguilera sent in a demo of her singing Whitney Houston's "Run to You" to Disney who were looking for a singer to record the song "Reflection" for their animated feature film Mulan (1998). The demo caught the attention of producer and label executive Ron Fair who would later mentor her throughout her career and led to Aguilera earning a contract with RCA Records the same week. After being signed, Aguilera and her label started working on her debut album.

The album's lyrics focused primarily on youthful themes, such as love, parties, and joy. Christina Aguilera is foremost a pop and R&B album. The self-entitled album also consisted of Latin inspired tracks, such as the number one hit "Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)", in which Aguilera showed off her Ecuadorian roots. "Obvious", the final track on the album, was one of the original demo tracks that was sent to Ron Fair before Aguilera was signed with her record label, RCA.

Aguilera's vocal range on this album is 3 octaves and 2 notes. She sings C3 in "We're Miracle" as the lowest note. Highest note is F5 in "I Turn To You" in full voice. Highest falsetto note is C6 in "Somebody's Somebody" and there is E6 whistle in "What A Girl Wants".

Famous quotes containing the words background and, background and/or composition:

I had many problems in my conduct of the office being contrasted with President Kennedy’s conduct in the office, with my manner of dealing with things and his manner, with my accent and his accent, with my background and his background. He was a great public hero, and anything I did that someone didn’t approve of, they would always feel that President Kennedy wouldn’t have done that.
    Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)

They were more than hostile. In the first place, I was a south Georgian and I was looked upon as a fiscal conservative, and the Atlanta newspapers quite erroneously, because they didn’t know anything about me or my background here in Plains, decided that I was also a racial conservative.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)

Those Dutchmen had hardly any imagination or fantasy, but their good taste and their scientific knowledge of composition were enormous.
