Christ Church Cathedral (Ottawa) - Present

Present

Currently, the Right Reverend John Chapman serves as the Bishop of Ottawa. The Very Reverend Shane Parker serves as the Dean of Ottawa and the Rector of Christ Church Cathedral. The Reverend Canon Catherine Ascah serves as the Pastoral Vicar, and the Men and Boys' Choir Chaplain. The Reverend Robert L. Graham, and the Reverend Dawna Wall (also the Chaplain to the Girls' Choir) serve as Pastoral Associates. Matthew Larkin, who serves as Organist and DoM, is a world-renowned musician. The Choir of Men and Boys is the only remaining all-male choir in a Canadian Cathedral. They continue to set a high standard of vocal repertoire and musicality, visiting the UK and France in recent years, and serving as the resident choir at Ely and Salisbury Cathedrals, in summers 2009 and 2011, respectively. The choir consists of 22 boys, aged from 8 to 14, and 14 professional men. James Calkin is the Associate DoM of Christ Church Cathedral and Director of the Cathedral Girls' Choir (who themselves travelled to England in 2012, singing at Westminster Abbey and Canterbury Cathedral. In 2007, the Cathedral purchased a Rodgers Trillium 958 as their primary organ. Although there was controversy of choosing a digital instrument, the Rodgers organ is very versatile and tonally varied. It is, however, the long-range plan of the Cathedral to raise funds for a new pipe instrument in the future. Please visit the website for more in information.

Redevelopment of the land around the Cathedral started in mid-2012, which will usher in an exciting new time of growth for the ministries of the Cathedral and wider Diocese of Ottawa.

Famous quotes containing the word present:

As regards the celebrated “struggle for life,” it seems to me for the present to have been rather asserted than proved. It does occur, but as the exception; the general aspect of life is not hunger and distress, but rather wealth, luxury, even absurd prodigality—where there is a struggle it is a struggle for power.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

Talk to them about things they don’t know. Try to give them an inferiority complex. If the actress is beautiful, screw her. If she isn’t, present her with a valuable painting she will not understand. If they insist on being boring, kick their asses or twist their noses. And that’s about all there is to it.
    John Huston (1906–1987)

There is always a present and extant life, be it better or worse, which all combine to uphold.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
