Chris Denning - Radio Career

Radio Career

Denning's first radio experience was on a short-wave station in the US as a teenager, and then on to Radio Moscow before travelling to Kenya to work on British Forces Network there with Keith Skues. He then returned to the UK in time to become the first announcer heard on the new BBC Television service BBC 2. He worked for Radio Luxembourg and Radio London before presenting the Saturday afternoon programme Where It's At with Kenny Everett (produced by Johnny Beerling) on the BBC's Light Programme. He then became one of the original DJs on BBC Radio 1, where he continued presenting Where It's At, had his own weekly show and deputised as necessary for Tony Blackburn on his breakfast show. He has also narrated a number of driver's eye view videos for Video 125.

Famous quotes containing the words radio and/or career:

A liberal is a socialist with a wife and two children.
    —Anonymous. BBC Radio 4 (April 8, 1990)

“Never hug and kiss your children! Mother love may make your children’s infancy unhappy and prevent them from pursuing a career or getting married!” That’s total hogwash, of course. But it shows on extreme example of what state-of-the-art “scientific” parenting was supposed to be in early twentieth-century America. After all, that was the heyday of efficiency experts, time-and-motion studies, and the like.
    Lawrence Kutner (20th century)
