Northern and Southern
See also: Northern and southern ChinaEdward Friedman has argued that there is a northern governmental, political, bureaucratic Chinese nationalism that is at odds with a southern, commercial Chinese nationalism. Famous quotes containing the words northern and/or southern:
“Sophocles long ago
Heard it on the Aegaean, and it brought
Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow
Of human misery; we
Find also in the sound a thought,
Hearing it by this distant northern sea.”
—Matthew Arnold (18221888)
“Southern trees bear a strange fruit
Blood on the leaf and blood at the root
Black bodies swingin in the southern breeze
Strange fruit hangin in the poplar trees.”
—Billie Holiday [Eleanor Fagan] (19151959)
