Chickahominy People
The Chickahominy are a tribe of Virginia Indians who primarily live in Charles City County, located along the James River midway between Richmond and Williamsburg in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This area of the Tidewater is not far from where they lived in 1600.
The Eastern Chickahominy split from the main tribe in the 1900s. They live in New Kent County, which is about 25 miles (40 km) east of Richmond. Both tribes are among the eleven officially recognized by the state as of 2012.

Famous quotes containing the word people:
“Frankly, I do not like the idea of conversations to define the term unconditional surrender. ... The German people can have dinned into their ears what I said in my Christmas Eve speechin effect, that we have no thought of destroying the German people and that we want them to live through the generations like other European peoples on condition, of course, that they get rid of their present philosophy of conquest.”
—Franklin D. Roosevelt (18821945)
