Chewy Granola Bars - Advertising

Advertising

Advertisements for Chewy Granola Bar have flip flop audiences over the years. In April 1999, Quaker Oats advertising campaign for print ads and commercials were targeted to the parents. The parents are the ones who are buying the product. The commercial uses references from the parents’ childhood like the song at the end of the commercial which was popular in the sixties. The most memorable commercial for Chewy Granola Bars is the commercial with the tagline, “Chewy Stops the Chatter”. The commercial features young children telling secrets about their parents. At the end of the commercial the young children are seen eating Chewy Grand Slam Bar and they all have a happy face. Parents will associate the happy children in the commercial to the Chewy Bars making their children just as happy.

The targeted audience changed later that year in 1999 and in 2000, from the parents to the children. Quaker Oats decided that children were the ones who were consuming the Chewy Bars so why shouldn’t they focus the ads towards them. Quaker Oats decided to change their TV ads so they were children friendly and to air commercials during children shows. In 2005 the ads were again found in parent magazines like Working Mothers. The ad features the mascot, the Quaker Oats man holding the product. The ad has a school setting and the tagline in the ad is “A Little Quaker Goodness for wherever their Day Takes them”. The ad is telling the mothers that the Chewy Granola Bar is a good snack no matter if the child is having a good or bad day.

A recent commercial for Chewy Granola Bar is again tailored towards the parents. The tagline of the commercial is “Nourish Their Play”. The commercial has a young boy that appears to have just come from playing a sport. The boy is holding a Chewy Granola Bar and talks about the game he just played in. He then takes a bite of the Chewy Bar and a smile appears on his face. The commercial implies that parents should buy the Quaker Oats Chewy Granola Bar because it is what their kids want. No matter whom their target audience is the Chewy Granola Bar is still selling strong.

Famous quotes containing the word advertising:

The same people who tell us that smoking doesn’t cause cancer are now telling us that advertising cigarettes doesn’t cause smoking.
    Ellen Goodman (b. 1941)

Now wait a minute. You listen to me. I’m an advertising man, not a red herring. I’ve got a job, a secretary, a mother, two ex- wives, and several bartenders dependent on me. And I don’t intend to disappoint them all by getting myself slightly killed.
    Ernest Lehman (b.1920)

Remove advertising, disable a person or firm from preconising [proclaiming] its wares and their merits, and the whole of society and of the economy is transformed. The enemies of advertising are the enemies of freedom.
    J. Enoch Powell (b. 1912)
