Turner's Interests

Charlie Turner had a wide range of interests and hobbies besides music. These included flying (he owned a Piper Cub and often flew with John Denver), photography, tennis, raising great schnauzer show dogs (he named one of his dogs Ava Gardner after his friend), and cooking (he competed with his neighbor Wayne Newton as to who could cook the best bread). Additionally he was a prolific reader, a great pool player, and an expert marksman (but refused to hunt animals).

Famous quotes containing the words turner and/or interests:

    O shining Popocatapetl, It was thy magic hour:

    The houses, people, traffic seemed
    Thin fading dreams by day;
    Chimborazo, Cotopaxi
    They had stolen my soul away!
    —Walter James Turner (1889–1946)

    Consider any individual at any period of his life, and you will always find him preoccupied with fresh plans to increase his comfort. Do not talk to him about the interests and rights of the human race; that little private business of his for the moment absorbs all his thoughts, and he hopes that public disturbances can be put off to some other time.
    Alexis de Tocqueville (1805–1859)
