Charles Faulkner - Critical Responses

Critical Responses

Faulkner, himself, has not received widespread criticism for his work. However, NLP as a legitimate therapy has been criticized by the mainstream, academic and scientific community. The skepticism stems, in part, from the fact that NLP is largely based on transformational grammar which emerged from later work on generative semantics--the "losing" side of the heavily debated "Linguistics Wars" in academic circles of the 1960s and 1970s. Furthermore, this credibility debate is compounded by the previous lack of empirical research supporting NLP's effectiveness.. "neuro-linguistic programming (NLP)". The Skeptic's Dictionary. Famous quotes containing the words critical and/or responses:

The principle goal of education in the schools should be creating men and women who are capable of doing new things, not simply repeating what other generations have done; men and women who are creative, inventive and discoverers, who can be critical and verify, and not accept, everything they are offered.
    Jean Piaget (1896–1980)

Research shows clearly that parents who have modeled nurturant, reassuring responses to infants’ fears and distress by soothing words and stroking gentleness have toddlers who already can stroke a crying child’s hair. Toddlers whose special adults model kindliness will even pick up a cookie dropped from a peer’s high chair and return it to the crying peer rather than eat it themselves!
    Alice Sterling Honig (20th century)
