Famous quotes containing the words central, league and/or statistics:

“In inner-party politics, these methods lead, as we shall yet see, to this: the party organization substitutes itself for the party, the central committee substitutes itself for the organization, and, finally, a “dictator” substitutes himself for the central committee.”
    —Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)

“Half a league, half a league,
    Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
    Rode the six hundred.
    “Forward the Light Brigade!”
    —Alfred Tennyson (1809–1892)

“We ask for no statistics of the killed,
    For nothing political impinges on
This single casualty, or all those gone,
Missing or healing, sinking or dispersed,
Hundreds of thousands counted, millions lost.”
    —Karl Shapiro (b. 1913)
