Celebrity Cruises - Controversy

Controversy

On the 1st October 2012 an undercover documentary, called Dispatches, showed that an employees earnings were significantly below the national minimum wage of the United Kingdom, and it was suggested that agency recruitment companies deliberately mislead Celebrity cruise employees and charged illegal fees to arrange employment. It was also suggested the company gave a much higher work load than was reasonable, and the company admitted that some staff hire help to complete their work. They also admitted that staff's wages are made up of gratuities, so the more gratuities a crew member is given means they will not necessarily come out with more wages. Celebrity cruises said that the documentary was biased, and that they operate within "the letter of the law".

Famous quotes containing the word controversy:

Ours was a highly activist administration, with a lot of controversy involved ... but I’m not sure that it would be inconsistent with my own political nature to do it differently if I had it to do all over again.
Jimmy Carter (James Earl Carter, Jr.)

And therefore, as when there is a controversy in an account, the parties must by their own accord, set up for right Reason, the Reason of some Arbitrator, or Judge, to whose sentence, they will both stand, or their controversy must either come to blows, or be undecided, for want of a right Reason constituted by Nature; so is it also in all debates of what kind soever.
    Thomas Hobbes (1579–1688)
