Cavitation can occur in control valves. If the upstream pressure is just above the vapour pressure, then it is possible that the pressure will drop below the vapour pressure as the fluid flows through the valve. If the pressure recovers after the valve to a pressure that is once again above the vapor pressure, then cavitation will occur.
