Early Life
Carol Thatcher and her twin brother, Sir Mark Thatcher, Bt, were born six weeks prematurely in 1953. According to Margaret Thatcher, her husband Denis responded to seeing his children for the first time: "My god, they look like rabbits. Put them back." Margaret Thatcher was selected for Finchley in 1958 and was elected as a member of Parliament in 1959. The following year, Carol was sent to Queenswood School, a girls boarding school in Hertfordshire. Thatcher studied law at University College London before moving to Australia in 1977 to begin a journalism career. While there, her mother was elected Prime Minister. Thatcher has said, "You need quite good shock absorbers and a sense of humour to be the Prime Minister's child."

Famous quotes containing the words early and/or life:
“In early days, I tried not to give librarians any trouble, which was where I made my primary mistake. Librarians like to be given trouble; they exist for it, they are geared to it. For the location of a mislaid volume, an uncatalogued item, your good librarian has a ferrets nose. Give her a scent and she jumps the leash, her eye bright with battle.”
—Catherine Drinker Bowen (18971973)
“Above all, we cannot afford not to live in the present. He is blessed over all mortals who loses no moment of the passing life in remembering the past.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
