Carlingford Court - History

History

The centre was built in 1965, and underwent several changes of ownership in the early 1990s. Major redevelopments took place upon GPT's acquisition of the centre, including refurbishment of the Woolworths store in 1998. In 2000, a $40 million upgrade saw the shopping centre gain a Coles supermarket (replacing a Franklins) and add 3,000 m² of floor space. In March 2006, the closure of the 8,000 m² Myer store on the third floor facilitated a move by Target into the space in November 2006. Target's original space was filled by Bing Lee, Go-Lo and Priceline Pharmacy in April and June 2007. In Priceline's old space,it was announced in June that a Dymocks Books will be opening. (It opened late August 2006.) Around this same time, Chemworld Chemist changed ownership to Amcal Pharmacy and had a minor facelift.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Certainly there is not the fight recorded in Concord history, at least, if in the history of America, that will bear a moment’s comparison with this, whether for the numbers engaged in it, or for the patriotism and heroism displayed.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

    I saw the Arab map.
It resembled a mare shuffling on,
    dragging its history like saddlebags,
nearing its tomb and the pitch of hell.
Adonis [Ali Ahmed Said] (b. 1930)

    A people without history
Is not redeemed from time, for history is a pattern
    Of timeless moments.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)
