Cardinal Pole RC School - Religion

Religion

As suggested by the name, Cardinal Pole is a Roman Catholic school. While it admits a substantial number of non-Catholic pupils, most of the students are from Catholic backgrounds. A religious assembly attended by staff and pupils is held four times a week. On occasion, Masses replace general assembly. Every student is required to take Religious Education at GCSE level, in keeping with the school's religious ethos. A non-examination Religious Education Programme is also followed by all sixth-form students.

Famous quotes containing the word religion:

That, upon the whole, we may conclude that the Christian religion not only was at first attended with miracles, but even at this day cannot be believed by any reasonable person without one. Mere reason is insufficient to convince us of its veracity: And whoever is moved by Faith to assent to it, is conscious of a continued miracle in his own person, which subverts all the principles of his understanding, and gives him a determination to believe what is most contrary to custom and experience.
    David Hume (1711–1776)

All Protestantism, even the most cold and passive, is a sort of dissent. But the religion most prevalent in our northern colonies is a refinement on the principle of resistance; it is the dissidence of dissent, and the Protestantism of the Protestant religion.
    Edmund Burke (1729–1797)

Our religion vulgarly stands on numbers of believers. Whenever the appeal is made—no matter how indirectly—to numbers, proclamation is then and there made, that religion is not. He that finds God a sweet, enveloping presence, who shall dare to come in?
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
