Open Business Plans
Traditionally business plans have been highly confidential and quite limited in audience. The business plan itself is generally regarded as secret. However the emergence of free software and open source has opened the model and made the notion of an open business plan possible.
An open business plan is a business plan with unlimited audience. The business plan is typically web published and made available to all.
In the free software and open source business model, trade secrets, copyright and patents can no longer be used as effective locking mechanisms to provide sustainable advantages to a particular business and therefore a secret business plan is less relevant in those models.
While the origin of the open business plan model is in the free software and Libre services arena, the concept is likely applicable to other domains.

Famous quotes containing the words open, business and/or plans:
“The open frontier, the hardships of homesteading from scratch, the wealth of natural resources, the whole vast challenge of a continent waiting to be exploited, combined to produce a prevailing materialism and an American drive bent as much, if not more, on money, property, and power than was true of the Old World from which we had fled.”
—Barbara Tuchman (19121989)
“...we shall never be the people we should and might be until we have learned that it is the first and most important business of a nation to protect its women, not by any puling sentimentality of queenship, chivalry or angelhood, but by making it possible for them to earn an honest living.”
—Katharine Pearson Woods (18531923)
“When I heard at the close of the day how my name had been receivd
with plaudits in the capitol, still it was not a happy night for me
that followd,
And else when I carousd, or when my plans were accomplishd,
still I was not happy,
But the day when I rose at dawn from the bed of perfect health,
refreshd, singing, inhaling the ripe breath of autumn,”
—Walt Whitman (18191892)
