Burj Khalifa - New Year's Eve Fireworks Display

New Year's Eve Fireworks Display

On 31 December 2010, fireworks accompanied by lasers and lights were displayed from the Burj Khalifa, making it the highest New Year fireworks display in the world.

The theme of the 2011 New Year fireworks was the "New Year Gala", a tribute to the spirit of Dubai, which is home to over 200 nationalities. The display also marked the first anniversary of Burj Khalifa.

Famous quotes containing the words year, eve, fireworks and/or display:

    In some withdrawn, unpublic mead
Let me sigh upon a reed,
Or in the woods, with leafy din,
    Whisper the still evening in:
Some still work give me to do,—
    Only—be it near to you!
For I’d rather be thy child
And pupil, in the forest wild,
Than be the king of men elsewhere,
And most sovereign slave of care:
To have one moment of thy dawn,
Than share the city’s year forlorn.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

It gets to seem as if way back in the Garden of Eden after the Fall, Adam and Eve had begged the Lord to forgive them and He, in his boundless exasperation, had said, “All right, then. Stay. Stay in the Garden. Get civilized. Procreate. Muck it up.” And they did.
    Diane Arbus (1923–1971)

Always and last, before the final ring
When all the fireworks blare, begins
    A tom-tom scrimmage with a somewhere violin,
Some cheapest echo of them all—begins.
    Hart Crane (1899–1932)

Voluptuaries, consumed by their senses, always begin by flinging themselves with a great display of frenzy into an abyss. But they survive, they come to the surface again. And they develop a routine of the abyss: “It’s four o’clock ... At five I have my abyss.”
    Colette [Sidonie Gabrielle Colette] (1873–1954)
