Famous quotes containing the word education:

“There must be a profound recognition that parents are the first teachers and that education begins before formal schooling and is deeply rooted in the values, traditions, and norms of family and culture.”
    —Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)

“The belief that all genuine education comes about through experience does not mean that all experiences are genuinely or equally educative.”
    —John Dewey (1859–1952)

“Because of these convictions, I made a personal decision in the 1964 Presidential campaign to make education a fundamental issue and to put it high on the nation’s agenda. I proposed to act on my belief that regardless of a family’s financial condition, education should be available to every child in the United States—as much education as he could absorb.”
    —Lyndon Baines Johnson (1908–1973)
