History

Founded as a branch of International Christian Relief, the charity broke off from the American parent body and became independent under the name International Care & Relief, which enabled it to continue to use its recognised acronym, ICR.

Its scope was then theoretically universal, dealing with all age groups and in all parts of the developing world. For operational reasons, the charity increasingly began to focus its work on young people in rural Africa in the early years of the 21st century, eventually leading to a rebrand to its current name.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Perhaps universal history is the history of the diverse intonation of some metaphors.
    Jorge Luis Borges (1899–1986)

The true theater of history is therefore the temperate zone.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

There is a constant in the average American imagination and taste, for which the past must be preserved and celebrated in full-scale authentic copy; a philosophy of immortality as duplication. It dominates the relation with the self, with the past, not infrequently with the present, always with History and, even, with the European tradition.
    Umberto Eco (b. 1932)
