Famous quotes containing the words brush and/or mouse:

Instead of feeling a poverty when we encounter a great man, let us treat the new comer like a travelling geologist, who passes through our estate, and shows us good slate, or limestone, or anthracite, in our brush pasture.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

Why do precisely these objects which we behold make a world? Why has man just these species of animals for his neighbors; as if nothing but a mouse could have filled this crevice?
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
