In 2002, in an online poll conducted in Austin, Kieschnick was voted the best baseball player in the history of the University of Texas. He became one of ten inaugural members of the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006 and on March 29, 2009, Kieschnick had his number 23 retired by the University of Texas.

Kieschnick's nephew is Roger Kieschnick, who was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the third round (and 82nd overall selection) of the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft.
