Before renovations in the late '90s, Brookline High School was used as the school in The Next Karate Kid starring Hilary Swank. In the movie, a bell can be heard between classes, although the school has no bell. The outside of the school was shot as the high school in the short lived sitcom Raising Dad starring Bob Saget and as the high school Paul Rudd works at it in The Oh in Ohio starring Parker Posey, Paul Rudd, Danny DeVito, Mischa Barton and Liza Minnelli. Some exterior shots of the school was used for TV series Do Over. Brookline High School is also the school of Evan Rachel Wood's character, Lucy, in Julie Taymor's 2007 Beatles film, Across the Universe. Images of Brookline high are also used in a Saturday Night Live sketch entitled "Malibu High".

Famous quotes containing the words pop culture, pop and/or culture:
“There is no comparing the brutality and cynicism of todays pop culture with that of forty years ago: from High Noon to Robocop is a long descent.”
—Charles Krauthammer (b. 1950)
“The children [on TV] are too well behaved and are reasonable beyond their years. All the children pop in with exceptional insights. On many of the shows the childrens insights are apt to be unexpectedly philosophical. The lesson seems to be, Listen to little children carefully and you will learn great truths.”
—G. Weinberg. originally quoted in What Is Televisions World of the Single Parent Doing to Your Family? TV Guide (August 1970)
“Our culture still holds mothers almost exclusively responsible when things go wrong with the kids. Sensing this ultimate accountability, women are understandably reluctant to give up control or veto power. If the finger of blame was eventually going to point in your direction, wouldnt you be?”
—Ron Taffel (20th century)
