Famous quotes containing the word students:

A complacent old Don of Divinity
Used to boast of his daughter’s virginity:
    “They must have been dawdlin’,
    The students of Magdalen—
It couldn’t have happened at Trinity.”
    Anonymous.

Separatism of any kind promotes marginalization of those unwilling to grapple with the whole body of knowledge and creative works available to others. This is true of black students who do not want to read works by white writers, of female students of any race who do not want to read books by men, and of white students who only want to read works by white writers.
    bell hooks (b. 1955)

We are students of words: we are shut up in schools, and colleges, and recitation-rooms, for ten or fifteen years, and come out at last with a bag of wind, a memory of words, and do not know a thing.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
