British Forces Aden - History

History

British Forces Aden was originally formed as Aden Command in 1928. On its establishment, Aden Command was a Royal Air Force command which was responsible for the control all British armed forces in the Protectorate. It was renamed British Forces in Aden, or simply British Forces Aden in 1936 and renamed again in 1956 as British Forces Arabian Peninsula. In 1961 the command was renamed once again, this time as Middle East Command (Aden). In 1967, following the British withdrawal from Aden at the end of the Emergency, the remaining British Forces in the Arabian Peninsula were reorganized as British Forces Gulf.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

To a surprising extent the war-lords in shining armour, the apostles of the martial virtues, tend not to die fighting when the time comes. History is full of ignominious getaways by the great and famous.
    George Orwell (1903–1950)

Both place and time were changed, and I dwelt nearer to those parts of the universe and to those eras in history which had most attracted me.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

We aspire to be something more than stupid and timid chattels, pretending to read history and our Bibles, but desecrating every house and every day we breathe in.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
