Brigg - Education

Education

Primary education in Brigg is provided by Brigg County Primary School and St Mary's Catholic Primary School. There was also previously a private preparatory school, which closed in 2009 and was replaced by Demeter House Special School.

Secondary education in Brigg also covers the surrounding villages and is provided by two comprehensive schools: Vale of Ancholme School, and the Sir John Nelthorpe School, a former grammar school, which has been a comprehensive since 1976. These two schools also collaborate to provide further education for post–16 pupils, although some attend colleges in nearby Scunthorpe. Students of Sir John Nelthorpe School call themselves Briggensians, after the town, and maintain a former students' association.

Famous quotes containing the word education:

As for the graces of expression, a great thought is never found in a mean dress; but ... the nine Muses and the three Graces will have conspired to clothe it in fit phrase. Its education has always been liberal, and its implied wit can endow a college.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

... the whole tenour of female education ... tends to render the best disposed romantic and inconstant; and the remainder vain and mean.
    Mary Wollstonecraft (1759–1797)

... the physical and domestic education of daughters should occupy the principal attention of mothers, in childhood: and the stimulation of the intellect should be very much reduced.
    Catherine E. Beecher (1800–1878)
