2012 Gubernatorial Campaign
On June 13, 2011 Sonntag announced he was considering a run for the 2012 Gubernatorial race. On June 15 he announced he would make a final decision by the Fourth of July. On July 5 Sonntag said decided not to run for Governor: “The Office of State Auditor continues to be a good fit and the place where I can best contribute and focus on my values.”
On June 11, 2012, Sonntag endorsed Republican Attorney General Rob McKenna for Governor and became chairman of Democrats for Rob (D4R). “After years of effective partnership, mutual respect, and friendship, helping Rob in this capacity was an afterthought. I am confident he is the right person for the job. Olympia has been polluted by special interest or partisan meddling. I’ve seen Rob display the kind of leadership that can get past all of that.
