Branch Brook Park (NLR Station)

Branch Brook Park Station is a station located at Anthony Place (formerly North 5 Street) north of Heller Parkway on the Newark City Subway branch of the Newark Light Rail. This station was opened in 2001 to replace a previous streetcar loop at this stop, then called Franklin Avenue Station to allow for longer vehicles to be used that replaced the PCC streetcars that previously ran the line, and also replaced the now-shuttered Heller Parkway Station just one block south. Franklin Avenue Station was originally built in 1940.

Prior to the opening of the line to Grove Street in Bloomfield, this stop was the final stop on the Newark City Subway. Some rush hour service still terminates here on a tail track north of the station. An 80 space park and ride lot is located one block from the station.

Famous quotes containing the words branch, brook and/or park:

    When I am finishing a picture I hold some God-made object up to it—a rock, a flower, the branch of a tree or my hand—as a kind of final test. If the painting stands up beside a thing man cannot make, the painting is authentic. If there’s a clash between the two, it is bad art.
    Marc Chagall (1889–1985)

    I never drank of Aganippe well,
    Nor ever did in shade of Tempe sit,
    And muses scorn with vulgar brains to dwell;
    Poor layman I, for sacred rites unfit.
    Some do I hear of poets’ fury tell,
    But, God wot, wot not what they mean by it;
    And this I swear by blackest brook of hell,
    I am no pickpurse of another’s wit.
    Sir Philip Sidney (1554–1586)

    Therefore awake! make haste, I say,
    And let us, without staying,
    All in our gowns of green so gay
    Into the Park a-maying!
    Unknown. Sister, Awake! (L. 9–12)
