Bradford Cathedral - Music

Music

Bradford Cathedral has long been a place of music and that tradition continues today under the leadership of Director of Music Alex Woodrow and Cathedral Organist Paul Bowen.

During term-time, Choral Services are sung as follows: Sunday 10.15am Choral Eucharist (musical forces by rotation) Sunday 4.00pm Choral Evensong (musical forces by rotation) Monday 5.30pm Choral Evensong (girls and men) Tuesday 5.30pm Choral Evensong (boys and men)

The girls and boys of the Choir are drawn from various local schools. The adults of the Choir are highly skilled volunteers, most of whom make their living outside of music. In addition to the schedule above, the Choir also performs other concerts and services within and outside the diocese, with a foreign tour every few years, the most recent being Barcelona in 2010 and Bavaria in 2008. Forthcoming visits include a tour to Ripon, Hexham and Newcastle in October 2012. The Choir recently recorded two services for the BBC Radio 2 Sunday Half Hour programme, to be broacast in Autumn 2012.

A specification of the fine William Hill pipe organ can be found on the National Pipe Organ Register. A flourishing series of Organ Recitals takes place on many Wednesday lunchtimes throughout the year at 1.05pm, attracting many excellent and well known players.

Famous quotes containing the word music:

Good music is very close to primitive language.
    Denis Diderot (1713–1784)

Now the rich stream of Music winds along
    Deep, majestic, smooth, and strong,
    Thomas Gray (1716–1771)

I fear I agree with your friend in not liking all sermons. Some of them, one has to confess, are rubbish: but then I release my attention from the preacher, and go ahead in any line of thought he may have started: and his after-eloquence acts as a kind of accompaniment—like music while one is reading poetry, which often, to me, adds to the effect.
Lewis Carroll [Charles Lutwidge Dodgson] (1832–1898)
