Bow Shape - Cross-section of Limbs

Cross-section of Limbs

The optimal cross-section of the bending section of a bow limb is rectangular, and almost all modern bows have such limbs. However, many, perhaps most, traditional bows have had a cross-section closer to circular, with every possible variation being used at some point. Current definitions of the traditional longbow require approximations of a D-shaped cross section.

Famous quotes containing the words cross-section of and/or limbs:

To look at the cross-section of any plan of a big city is to look at something like the section of a fibrous tumor.
    Frank Lloyd Wright (1869–1959)

But the hobbledehoy, though he blushes when women address him, and is uneasy even when he is near them, though he is not master of his limbs in a ball-room, and is hardly master of his tongue at any time, is the most eloquent of beings, and especially eloquent among beautiful women.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)
