Bonnie Ethel Cone - Bonnie Cone Memorial

Bonnie Cone Memorial

Bonnie Cone is buried in the Van Landingham Glen on the main campus of UNC Charlotte, across from the Fretwell building. A slab of slate sits on top of her burial place inscribed with the words "Founder of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte." There is also a stone walkway up to her burial place, and stone seating surrounding the memorial for visitation and reflection. This area is in the process of being transformed into a meditation garden in honor of Dr. Cone.

Famous quotes containing the words bonnie and/or memorial:

Ye banks and braes o’ bonnie Doon,
How can ye bloom sae fresh and fair?
How can ye chant, ye little birds,
And I sae weary fu’ o’ care?
Thou’lt break my heart, thou warbling bird,
That wantons thro’ the flowering thorn:
Thou minds me o’ departed joys,
    Departed never to return.
    Robert Burns (1759–1796)

When I received this [coronation] ring I solemnly bound myself in marriage to the realm; and it will be quite sufficient for the memorial of my name and for my glory, if, when I die, an inscription be engraved on a marble tomb, saying, “Here lieth Elizabeth, which reigned a virgin, and died a virgin.”
    Elizabeth I (1533–1603)
