Famous quotes containing the words bone, anchored, hearing and/or aid:
“Here lies the body of William Jones
Who all his life collected bones,
Till Death, that grim and boney spectre,
That universal bone collector,
Boned old Jones, so neat and tidy,
And here he lies, all bona fide.”
—Anonymous. Epitaph on William Jones, from Eleanor Broughtons Varia (1925)
“I make this in a warring absence when
Each ancient, stone-necked minute of loves season
Harbours my anchored tongue....”
—Dylan Thomas (19141953)
“A fearful man is always hearing things.”
—Sophocles (497406/5 B.C.)
“A man, said Oliver Cromwell, never rises so high as when he knows not whither he is going. Dreams and drunkenness, the use of opium and alcohol are the semblance and counterfeit of this oracular genius, and hence their dangerous attraction for men. For the like reason they ask the aid of wild passions, as in gaming and war, to ape in some manner these flames and generosities of the heart.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
