Explanation On Variations
The mutation of 'g' into 'h' (Cyrillic: г) occurred in the Ukrainian, and Belarusian languages, due to transformation of spelling from Cyrillic alphabet into Latin. The Cyrillic г/г in Russian is pronounced as g, while in Ukrainian and Belarusian as h. That also can be noted in Czech and Slovak languages that changed from Cyrillic alphabet to Latin.
In Poland, however, Bohdan is accepted alongside Bogdan.

Famous quotes containing the words explanation and/or variations:
“My companion assumes to know my mood and habit of thought, and we go on from explanation to explanation, until all is said that words can, and we leave matters just as they were at first, because of that vicious assumption.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“I may be able to spot arrowheads on the desert but a refrigerator is a jungle in which I am easily lost. My wife, however, will unerringly point out that the cheese or the leftover roast is hiding right in front of my eyes. Hundreds of such experiences convince me that men and women often inhabit quite different visual worlds. These are differences which cannot be attributed to variations in visual acuity. Man and women simply have learned to use their eyes in very different ways.”
—Edward T. Hall (b. 1914)
