Political Career

Bob Attersley's political career began to 1964 when he was first elected to the town council of Whitby. Serving as a councillor from January 1964 until August 1966 when the Reeve of Whitby, an Everett Quantrill, resigned. At that point the Deputy Reeve George Brooks took his place and Bob Attersley took over as Deputy Reeve & finance committee chairman. He stayed in those positions until the end of 1969 when Bob retired from council.

With the resignation of Councillor Hugh O'Connel, Bob stepped in to take his place from June 1971 serving until 1973 where he did not seek re-election. He did not return until 1977-1978 as the West Ward Councillor and served as one of Whitby's two Durham Regional Councillors.
