Bo School

The Bo Government Secondary School commonly known as Bo School is a secondary school located in Bo, the second largest city in Sierra Leone. The school was founded in 1906 at the behest of Governor Leslie Probyn to educate the sons of Paramount Chiefs in the British manner. It is located on 13.5 acres (5.5 ha) in the center of Bo and has a long history of developing the elite of Sierra Leone, especially the country's politicians.

It is a 100 percent boarding school for boys and has four dormitories in which student live on campus. The four dorms are called Manchester, Paris, London and Liverpool. A football field, a volleyball court, a basketball court, a long tennis, and cricket pitch enrich the recreational facilities the school provides. There are plans to rehabilitate the school swimming pool.

The Old Bo Boys Association (OBBA) was formed in 1929 and now has branches all over the world, most prominently in the United Kingdom.

Famous quotes containing the word school:

The first rule of education for me was discipline. Discipline is the keynote to learning. Discipline has been the great factor in my life. I discipline myself to do everything—getting up in the morning, walking, dancing, exercise. If you won’t have discipline, you won’t have a nation. We can’t have permissiveness. When someone comes in and says, “Oh, your room is so quiet,” I know I’ve been successful.
Rose Hoffman, U.S. public school third-grade teacher. As quoted in Working, book 8, by Studs Terkel (1973)
