Political Struggle For Immortalism and Immortality

Though some scientists state that radical life extension and delaying or stopping aging are achievable, there are still no international or national programs focused on stopping aging or on radical life extension. There are political forces advocating for and against immortality. In 2012 in Russia, and then in the United States, Israel, and the Netherlands, the pro-immortality "longevity" political parties were launched. They aim to provide political support to anti-aging and radical life extension research and technologies and want to ensure the fastest possible—and at the same time, as least disruptive as possible—societal transition to radical life extension, life without aging, and ultimately, immortality. They aim to make it possible to provide access to such technologies to the majority of people alive today.

According to a poll by the Levada Center, 9% of Russians want to live forever.

Famous quotes containing the words political, struggle and/or immortality:

It is certainly safe, in view of the movement to the right of intellectuals and political thinkers, to pronounce the brain death of socialism.
    Norman Tebbit (b. 1931)

To write or even speak English is not a science but an art. There are no reliable words.... Whoever writes English is involved in a struggle that never lets up even for a sentence. He is struggling against vagueness, against obscurity, against the lure of the decorative adjective, against the encroachment of Latin and Greek, and, above all, against the worn-out phrases and dead metaphors with which the language is cluttered up.
    George Orwell (1903–1950)

There is a savor of life and immortality in substantial fare. Like balloons, we are nothing till filled.
    Herman Melville (1819–1891)
