Big Meadows - The Big Meadow

A part of the campground area, called The Big Meadow, is adjacent to the camp store and the Byrd Visitor center. Campers often wander the grassy trails of the meadow, watching for blueberries and blackberries. Usually, the bears have harvested the ripe stuff before the hikers arrive; in early-morning hikes, bears are sometimes spotted around the edges of the meadow.

Famous quotes containing the words big and/or meadow:

... my mother ... piled up her hair and went out to teach in a one-room school, mountain children little and big alike. The first day, some fathers came along to see if she could whip their children, some who were older than she. She told the children that she did intend to whip them if they became unruly and refused to learn, and invited the fathers to stay if they liked and she’d be able to whip them too. Having been thus tried out, she was a great success with them after that.
    Eudora Welty (b. 1909)

At this season I seldom had a visitor. When the snow lay deepest no wanderer ventured near my house for a week or fortnight at a time, but there I lived as snug as a meadow mouse.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
