The Belgrano Sur line is a commuter rail service in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina run by the private company Transportes Metropolitanos Belgrano Sur S.A. (TMB), a subsidiary of Metropolitano, between 1 May 1994 and 22 May 2007. This service had previously been run by the state-owned Ferrocarril General Manuel Belgrano since nationalisation of the railways in 1948.
The Belgrano Sur line operates the following services:
1) From the terminus of Buenos Aires Belgrano Sur railway station, outside the city centre, to González Catán along a metre gauge line built by the French-owned CGBA.
2) From the terminus Puente Alsina railway station, just outside the city, to Aldo Bonzi, along a metre gauge line built by the British-owned Buenos Aires Midland Railway.
In spite of the large government subsidies received by TMB a serious decline in the standard of their rail services has led to the original concession being revoked and since 2007 the service has been operated by the consortium UGOFE.
Famous quotes containing the word line:
“Our job is now clear. All Americans must be prepared to make, on a 24 hour schedule, every war weapon possible and the war factory line will use men and materials which will bring, the war effort to every man, woman, and child in America. All one hundred thirty million of us will be needed to answer the sunrise stealth of the Sabbath Day Assassins.”
