History
Originally, complex was built in 1938 in the modern neighborhood of Sajmište in Novi Beograd, across the Sava. As it was turned into the Sajmište concentration camp, it was not reconstructed after 1945 and a new Sajam was built on its present location in 1957. It was constructed by the architects Branko Žeželj and Milorad Pantović. Since then, Sajmište became known as Staro Sajmište ("old trade fair").

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“The history of work has been, in part, the history of the workers body. Production depended on what the body could accomplish with strength and skill. Techniques that improve output have been driven by a general desire to decrease the pain of labor as well as by employers intentions to escape dependency upon that knowledge which only the sentient laboring body could provide.”
—Shoshana Zuboff (b. 1951)
“Systematic philosophical and practical anti-intellectualism such as we are witnessing appears to be something truly novel in the history of human culture.”
—Johan Huizinga (18721945)
“Dont give your opinions about Art and the Purpose of Life. They are of little interest and, anyway, you cant express them. Dont analyse yourself. Give the relevant facts and let your readers make their own judgments. Stick to your story. It is not the most important subject in history but it is one about which you are uniquely qualified to speak.”
—Evelyn Waugh (19031966)
