Behind Enemy Lines (2001 Film) - Production

Production

The film was shot in Slovakia. During the shooting of the film, for the first time in 104 years, Slovakia hadn't received snow, so special effects were used to create snow for the film.

None of the actors playing Serbians were actually Serbian; the producers said that they hired Croats to instruct the actors in Serbian, because they couldn't find any Serbs willing to work on the film, due to hints of anti-Serb sentiment shown in the film. Vladimir Mashkov, the actor who played the Serbian sniper, Sasha, is Russian and Olek Krupa, the actor who played the Serbian General, Miroslav Lokar, is Polish. Some Slovaks also participated in the film, such as Marko Igonda, who plays Colonel Bazda, and Kamil Kollarik, who plays a young militant who aids Burnett in Hač.

The USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) was the aircraft carrier featured in the film. Exterior naval footage was filmed on board the carrier. Interiors were filmed on the Carl Vinson, on the USS Constellation (CV-64), and on-set.

Famous quotes containing the word production:

An art whose limits depend on a moving image, mass audience, and industrial production is bound to differ from an art whose limits depend on language, a limited audience, and individual creation. In short, the filmed novel, in spite of certain resemblances, will inevitably become a different artistic entity from the novel on which it is based.
George Bluestone, U.S. educator, critic. “The Limits of the Novel and the Limits of the Film,” Novels Into Film, Johns Hopkins Press (1957)

The production of obscurity in Paris compares to the production of motor cars in Detroit in the great period of American industry.
    Ernest Gellner (b. 1925)

The production of too many useful things results in too many useless people.
    Karl Marx (1818–1883)
