Famous quotes containing the words bear, lake, state and/or park:

The young women [in England] are so mortally silly and insipid, that I cannot bear them. Upon my word ... I have scarce met with one worthy being spoke to. Their chat is all on caps—balls—cards—dress—nonsense.
    Frances Burney (1752–1840)

They who know of no purer sources of truth, who have traced up its stream no higher, stand, and wisely stand, by the Bible and the Constitution, and drink at it there with reverence and humility; but they who behold where it comes trickling into this lake or that pool, gird up their loins once more, and continue their pilgrimage toward its fountain-head.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Inferiors revolt in order that they may be equal, and equals that they may be superior. Such is the state of mind which creates revolutions.
    Aristotle (384–322 B.C.)

The park is filled with night and fog,
The veils are drawn about the world,
    Sara Teasdale (1884–1933)
