Bean Sprout - Use

Use

In the East, they are not usually eaten raw, the way Westerners may use alfalfa sprouts as a salad or sandwich. They can be microwaved, blanched and seasoned, or stir fried. They may also be used as an ingredient for e.g., spring rolls before applying heat.

In Chinese cuisine, common dishes that may use sprouts are fried rice, spring rolls, egg drop soup, and hot and sour soup. In Korea, it is one of the staple ingredients for Namul.

They are used in Thai cuisine and Vietnamese cuisine as well. Bean sprouts typically take one week for them to be completely grown.

Famous quotes containing the word use:

... it is use, and use alone, which leads one of us, tolerably trained to recognize any criterion of grace or any sense of the fitness of things, to tolerate ... the styles of dress to which we are more or less conforming every day of our lives. Fifty years hence they will seem to us as uncultivated as the nose-rings of the Hottentot seem today.
    Elizabeth Stuart Phelps (1844–1911)
