Modern Times
The battle is regarded by Belarusians as a symbol of national revival, but its significance is being suppressed by state authorities. In September 2005, by order of President Alexander Lukashenko, four members of the Belarusian National Front opposition were each fined almost 4 millions roubles (roughly 1500 Euro) for celebrating the 491st anniversary of the battle.
