The militancy of men, through all the centuries, has drenched the world with blood, and for these deeds of horror and destruction men have been rewarded with monuments, with great songs and epics. Emmeline Pankhurst (1858–1928)

War consisteth not in battle only, or the act of fighting; but in a tract of time, wherein the will to contend by battle is sufficiently known.
    Thomas Hobbes (1588–1679)

    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
