Barry Docks Railway Station

Barry Docks Railway Station is one of three railway stations serving the town of Barry, South Wales.

More centrally located than Barry station, it is located on the Vale of Glamorgan Line from 7+1⁄4 miles (12 km) south of Cardiff Central towards Bridgend (via Barry and Rhoose) and Barry Island.

It was built after the Barry Railway Company was incorporated by Act of Parliament on 14 August 1884, for the construction of a dock at Barry Island. The company also ran Paddle Steamers from the nearby pier across the Bristol Channel, but eventually sold out to the Bristol company of P and A Campbell.

Rail passenger services are operated by Arriva Trains Wales as part of the Valley Lines network.

Famous quotes containing the words barry, railway and/or station:

But whether on the scaffold high,
    Or in the battle’s van,
The fittest place where man can die
Is where he dies for man.
    —Michael J. Barry (1817–1889)

Her personality had an architectonic quality; I think of her when I see some of the great London railway termini, especially St. Pancras, with its soot and turrets, and she overshadowed her own daughters, whom she did not understand—my mother, who liked things to be nice; my dotty aunt. But my mother had not the strength to put even some physical distance between them, let alone keep the old monster at emotional arm’s length.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

Say first, of God above, or Man below,
What can we reason, but from what we know?
Of Man what see we, but his station here,
From which to reason, or to which refer?
Thro’ worlds unnumber’d tho’ the God be known,
‘Tis ours to trace him only in our own.

    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)
