Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory is a bird observatory on Bardsey Island, off the Welsh coast.
It was founded in 1953 by a group of ornithologists from the West Midland Bird Club (still represented on the observatory's management committee), the West Wales Field Society, and local people. The West Midlands Bird club not only saw a possoblity for a new bird observatory, but an opportunity for studying the complex ecology of a small island. The Bardsey Bird and Field Observatory was formed by a group from the Birmingham and West Midlands Bird Club, the West Wales Field Society, inhabitants of the island and interested people living in Caernarfonshire and Gwynedd. The BBFO is the only fully accredited obsorvatory in Wales and is 1 of 20 bird observatories across the British Isles. Barsey Island or Ynnys Enlli is of great conservational importance and carrys the following list of national and international designations: National Nature Reserve, Site of Special Scientific Interest, Special Protection Area, Environmentally Sensitive Area, Llyn Peninsula Heritage Coast, Llyn Peninsula Special Area of Conservation, Area of Outstanding National Beauty.
Bardsey is the only fully accredited bird observatory in Wales. It is a registered charity.
