Marriage and Family
In 1907, Manuel Luis Quezón was elected to the Philippine Assembly. By 1916, he was elected to the Philippine Senate and as that chamber's President. Aurora often visited Manuel in Manila. In December, 1918, they were married in Hong Kong. They had four children: María Aurora or "Baby" (1919–1949); María Zeneida or "Nini" (b. 1921); Luisa Corazón Paz (1924–1924); and Manuel Lucio, Jr. or "Nonong" (1926–1998). Luisa would die in infancy.
The marriage lasted until President Quezón's death in 1944. It withstood despite Manuel's reputation as a libertine; the author Stanley Karnow described Mrs. Quezón as finding "solace in prayer and the Philippine law against divorce". Still, Aurora has also been described as "a devoted wife and a strict but understanding mother". Manuel Quezon himself publicly extolled his wife as "my friend, companion and partner".

Famous quotes containing the words marriage and/or family:
“What is marriage, is marriage protection or religion, is marriage renunciation or abundance, is marriage a stepping-stone or an end. What is marriage.”
—Gertrude Stein (18741946)
“True spoiling is nothing to do with what a child owns or with amount of attention he gets. he can have the major part of your income, living space and attention and not be spoiled, or he can have very little and be spoiled. It is not what he gets that is at issue. It is how and why he gets it. Spoiling is to do with the family balance of power.”
—Penelope Leach (20th century)
